We catch up with Jonny Adamposted in GT22 | 07 | 2011

FIFER JONNY ADAM is taking time to draw breath after his opening outings in the Beechdean Motorsport Aston Martin DBRS9 in the British GT Championship.

Partnering Andrew Howard, the 26-year-old former Seat Cupra Champion from Kirkcaldy suffered with a puncture at Snetterton then posted the second-fastest lap during his stint next time out at Brands Hatch.

But it was on his first visit to the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in belgium, scene of the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix, which brought him his best finish of the season so far.

"It was a great weekend," Adam, the former BTCC driver, explained during our 'catch-up'. I'd never been there before, and it was tough; there were something like 59 cars on track at any one time, so it was difficult to get a clear lap.

"We qualified 10th and ninth for the two races, and finished the opening one in fifth place, which was very encouraging for us. I did the first stint in the second race and got us up to third; we then had a terrific driver-change and Andrew brought the car home in third place.

"To get a podium finish on our first visit to Spa was great both for Andrew and me, plus the whole team. Everybody worked really hard right through the weekend and it was great to have something to celebrate at the end. To walk away with a podium was excellent."

Adam returns to British GT action at the beginning of September when the championship heads to Rockingham in Northamptonshire.
