Pioneer backs Scot Shedden's BTCC bidposted in BTCC14 | 02 | 2011

SCOT GORDON SHEDDEN'S assault on the British Touring Car Championship has received a significant boost after his Honda Racing Team confirmed Pioneer as its main sponsor for 2011.

The global audio/video and electronics firm — whose logo appeared on the rear of the Civics driven by Shedden and team-mate Matt Neal throughout the second half of the 2010 season — is looking forward to more winning success with the team.

“Honda is renowned for its innovation and technical expertise, as well as products of a very high calibre," Paul Carpenter, managing director, Pioneer GB, said. "With similar brand values, this is something Pioneer is delighted to be aligned with.

We wish the team great success for the forthcoming season and look forward to continuing our excellent relationship with Honda.”

Shedden, who last year won five races in the BTCC championship and was in the title race right up until the final round, helped Team Honda Racing to both the team and manufacturer trophies.

"Missing out on the title last year was tough," the Dalgety Bay racer admitted today, "but having come so close last year I'm even more fired up for 2011, and having Pioneer onboard will be a big boost for the team ... though I don't think I'll have much time to listen to many CDs when I'm racing.

"This year we'll be in a very different car. Revised regulations mean it will be a more powerful vehicle, driven by a newly developed turbo-charged four-cylinder petrol engine and with Pioneer onboard we're targeting a clean sweep of all three BTCC trophies – driver, team and manufacturer.”
