DC, Di Resta and Mercposted in F113 | 08 | 2011
GRAND PRIX WINNER David Coulthard believes it would the "perfect scenario" if Scotland's current Formula One star Paul di Resta replaced seven-times world champ Michael Schumacher at Mercedes GP next year.
Coulthard, winner of 13 F1 grands prix in his 15-year racing career and in Scotland this weekend for his sister Lynsay's wedding, also believes the 25-year-old Force India racer faces some tough decisions.
"Force India has desires to be a winning team in the future," 40-year-old Coulthard said in Glasgow, "but realistically Paul has to make tough decisions and try and fast-track himself into the best car possible.
"Unquestionably for me it would be perfect scenario if Paul switched to Mercedes to replace Michael Schumacher if the seven-time world champ decides to retire at the end of this season."
Scots' World Land Speed Record bid
Bathgate's Di Resta has a long association with Mercedes. The Formula 3 car he drove to the 2006 European Formula 3 Championship was Mercedes-powered, and the Scot won the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) for the manufacturer last year.
"Paul has a good relationship with Mercedes from DTM," TW Steel ambassador Coulthard continued. "There's no question he has already established himself as a complete F1 driver, and all he needs really is a car more capable than the one Force India has at the moment."
