Motorpoint opens new Edinburgh centre 03 | 10 | 2022

MOTORPOINT HAS OFFICIALLY opened its first used car supermarket in Edinburgh, writes Jim McGill. Located on Baileyfield Road in Edinburgh’s Portobello area, it’s the company’s second in Scotland, joining one in Glasgow, and the 18th retail location in a growing network across the UK. Holding a stock of 400 used car models, which it claims are “the vehicles most in demand by Edinburgh drivers”, the new centre will also host a live ‘art’ performance by van grime artist Ruddy Muddy during half-term on October 19. The artist will transform the side and rear of a Mercedes Benz Vito white van into a “stunning creative masterpiece”.

Rather bizarrely, it will also treat visitors to a taste of live Scottish Highland Dancing thanks to students from the Dunedin Dance Academy.

Motor point, which employs over 900 people across the UK, reported earlier this year that revenues rose to £402 million in the period to March 31. It also recorded pre-tax profits of £21.5 million in the financial year ended March 31, 2022. That was a sizeable leap from the £9.7m figure in the previous 12 months. Across its then 14 dealerships, revenues also rose significantly — fuelled by vehicle price inflation — up 83% year-on-year from £721.4m to £1.32 billion. (Related: Clyde FC gets Motorpoint support)

“We’ve pulled together an exciting line-up of vehicles to suit all budgets and lifestyles,” Richard Start, Regional Retail Director at Motorpoint Edinburgh, said. “They’re all ready to drive away.

“Our customers can come in, browse and buy in a pressure-free environment. They can sell their car to us if they want to, part exchange if they prefer and they can arrange the right finance and payment package through us too.

“Our team has worked hard to select a range and choice of vehicles for the people of Edinburgh; from city cars to midsize and larger family cars, SUVs, and estates, all available to drive away the same day.

“On top of this we know that whenever Motorpoint opens a new store our focus delivering unbeatable value for money means used car prices locally fall across the board. This can only be good news for local car buyers.”
