Everrati unveils Porsche 964 Cabrio EV 05 | 10 | 2022

THINK ELECTRIC CARS are boring? Well think again. Electromod superstars Everrati have just lifted the covers — well, roof actually — from its latest model, the classic 964 generation of the Porsche 911 ’Wide Body’ Cabriolet, writes Jim McGill.

Power for the soft top is the same 510hp and 369lb/ft as found in the company’s 964 coupe, and comes from the same 62kWh battery. According to Everrati, the cabrio will whizz to 60mph in less than four seconds, and be capable of covering around 200 miles on a full charge. The company also says a 440hp option will also be available. (Related: Lotus unveils Eletre Hyper-SUV)

Probably worth mentioning here, the Signature 964 coupe started at £250,000, so it’s unrealistic to expect the cabrio to be priced any lower. It’s certainly not cheap. But then, if you want something different … and you have the money.

The clever bods at Everrati replace the air-cooled 964 combustion engine and slot in the 62kWh battery. But what is perhaps more amazing is the same bods assure us the modification is fully reversible… though I’m sure that ‘operation’ wouldn’t be cheap. (Related: Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo on sale)

And importantly, certainly in terms of a classic Porsche, the modules have been positioned so as to mimic the original car’s weight distribution and chassis response. Of course, it’s rear-wheel-drive, too. (Related: Lotus Evija hypercar global reveal)

In striving to preserve the original ‘feel’ and character of the flat-six original 964 Cabriolet, the guys have not only “worked meticulously” but also fitted a fully adjustable TracTive suspension to the cabrio.

Developed in the UK and extensively engineered at Everrati’s global headquarters in Oxfordshire, like all its models — the EV range also  includes a Land Rover ‘Series’ IIA, Mercedes-Benz SL ‘Pagoda’ and a Ford GT40 in partnership with Superformance — the 964 cabrio combines a full restoration with the installation of sector-leading IP blended with technology from the best Tier 1 automotive suppliers.

And while the UK remains a significant market for cabrios, Everrati also has a partnership with Aria Group, which is based in Irvine, California. Aria has expertise in low-volume, high-end vehicle engineering and production supporting world-leading OEMs and reimagination specialists. This arrangement, of course, not only means 964s can be converted on both sides of the Atlantic but goes someway to fulfilling Everrati’s ‘desire to positively contribute towards reducing air pollution’. As is the case with the Coupe and Targa models, which Everrati already offers, the 964 Cabrio will be offered in Pure or Signature spec, as well as the officially licensed Gulf Signature Edition.

Worth also highlighting that the 964 Wide Body cabriolet uses a donor chassis and body — “selected for its provenance and condition” — as the basis for restoration and electrification.

“We are delighted to be expanding our product offering with a world-first in the form of our Porsche 911 (964) Wide Body Cabriolet,” Justin Lunny, Everrati’s founder and boss stated.

“Everrati prides itself on enhancing the original ‘feel’ and character of iconic cars, and the pure open-top driving experience of the 964 Cabriolet, now combined with state-of-the-art EV power, means our customers can enjoy convertible thrills in truly sustainable, 21-century style.

“At present, the options open to buyers in the convertible EV market are extremely scarce, and we are proud to have created a cutting-edge convertible EV above and beyond what mainstream manufacturers are delivering."
