MG5 EV facelift starts from £30,995 15 | 07 | 2022

MG HAS GIVEN its MG5 EV a facelift. The 2022 revisions to what is Britain’s fifth best-selling electric car see tweaks to both the inside and out. Prices for the latest version start at £30,995 for the entry-level SE trim, rising to £33,495 for the Trophy spec. Order books are open now, with first deliveries expected before the end of the year.

Taking the electric battle to the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia Niri EV an VW ID.3, the updated MG5 EV now boasts a new front bumper and headlamp arrangement, as well as a tweaked rear bumper. There’s also new chrome trim for the tailgate, fresh tail-lights with a Y-shaped light signature, plus new alloys.

Inside, the cabin is dominated by a dashboard layout featuring a larger, high-mounted infotainment system.  There’s also a fresh centre console with a new gear selector and a hidden storage tray, plus MG designers have moved the climate controls into the central screen.

The cabin also benefits from a new 10.25-inch infotainment screen with updated software capable of supporting iSMART functionality through MG’s smartphone app. A further improvement sees the 2022 model benefit from a Vehicle-To-Load system, meaning the MG5 EV is able to power electric devices such as camping equipment from the battery unit’s energy.

The MG5 EV has always been well equipped with standard goodies. The entry-level SE gets the ‘MG Pilot’ driver safety system, adaptive cruise control, a rear parking camera, roof rails, plus automatic LED headlights and taillights. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included.

Trophy trim adds a leather interior with electric seat adjustment and heated front seats, a 360-degree camera, rear privacy glass, rain sensing wipers and an automatic climate control. And while the SE gets a new design of 16in alloys, there are new 17in wheels for the Trophy.

There are no changes to the MG5 EV’s powertrain, meaning it continues with the same 61.1kWh battery pack and 154bhp electric motor. Drive is sent to the front wheels and MG quotes a maximum range of 249 miles. The company also says the EV is capable of  towing up to 500kg.
