Hardcore Urus Performante gets 657bhp 19 | 08 | 2022

THIS IS THE new Lamborghini Urus Performante; it’s the hardcore version of the Italian supercarmaker’s practical offroader. Priced from £170,260, it’s on sale now, with first deliveries expected before the end of the year. So, what do you get for your money? A lot! (Related: Lambo plans first full EV)

Lamborghini engineers have tuned the standard car’s twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 to produce 657bhp; that’s 16bhp more than the ‘standard’ car.  Torque remains the same at 850Nm. The Performante will scorch from standstill to 62mph in just 3.3-seconds, three-tenths quicker than the standard car. And it’ll carry on to a top speed of 190mph.  (Related: Driving four Lamborghinis in 24-hours)

The engineers have also fine-tuned the SUV’s handling in order to make it sharper to drive and even more fun. There’s been a recalibration of the steering rack and rear-wheel steering system to be more aggressive, plus the drive select system now features a Rally mode. The latter adjusts the car’s parameters for use on gravel tracks. (I know … how often is THAT going to happen?) (Related: Lamborghini unveils Huracan Tecnica)

The designers have also given the Urus Performante subtle tweaks to the exterior, including more carbon fibre to help reduce weight. The Performante’s bonnet is made from carbon fibre and features aggressive vents providing increased engine cooling, while the newly designed bumper draws air from around the front wheels reducing drag. Tweaks to the suspension means the car sits 20mm lower (on steel springs, not the standard car’s air suspension), while the carbon fibre wheel-arch extensions are required to accommodate the increase of 16mm to the SUV’s track and 22, or optional 23-inch, forged alloy wheels. Both sets of alloys are wrapped in track-ready Pirelli Trofeo R rubber and feature titanium bolts. (Related: Lambo boss Andrea Baldi — Exclusive interview)

Checking the Performante highlights the fat there’s a carbon fibre bumper, a new rear spoiler with carbon fibre fins inspired by the Aventador SVJ, and a light-weight titanium Akrapovic exhaust. And while the rear spoiler produces 38% more downforce than the standard spoiler, overall the big SUV benefits from downforce which has been increased by 8% overall. Aerodynamic efficiency has also been improved. (Related: Lamborghini Huracan STO)

Inside the cabin, it’s still a sumptuous place to experience the Lamborghini’s mighty performance. The Urus Performante gets a Nero Cosmus black Alcantara interior featuring hexagonal stitching, with the option to have the headlining, door cards, back seats and boot also lined in Alcantara. And while there’s black anodized aluminium trim pieces, the steering wheel is also trimmed in Alcantara. Plus the infotainment screens get unique Performante graphics.
