THE 2022 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW has been cancelled. Organisers confirmed the news that the event, which had be en scheduled for next February, will not go ahead because of the persisting problems posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Geneva show’s organising committee, blaming ‘direct and indirect’ issues, pointed to continuing travel restrictions which were affecting international exhibitors, media and visitors and which left them with no alternative’ but to postpone Geneva until 2023.

It will be the third year in a row that the Geneva Motor Show has not taken place because of the impact of Covid.  The 2020 edition of the show was cancelled only days before opening its doors to the world’s media and visiting public, in the early stages of the global pandemic.

It will also come as no surprise to learn that several carmakers had already pulled out of the show during early planning stages. This decision had been heavily influenced by the ongoing semiconductor shortage which continues to affect car manufacturers globally. The show’s organisers accepted that manufacturers had ‘new priorities’ to solve first.

"We have pushed very hard and tried everything to reactivate the Geneva International Motor Show in 2022", Maurice Turrettini, President of the show’s organising committee, said.

"Despite all our efforts, we have to face the facts and the reality: the pandemic situation is not under control and presents itself as a big threat for a large indoor event like GIMS. But we see this decision as a postponement, rather than a cancellation. I am confident that the Geneva International Motor Show will come back stronger than ever in 2023."
