VW HAS CONFIRMED the up! GTI is back on sale in the UK. The five-door costs £16,295. (Related: Twist and shout in Amalfi with up! GTI)

The up! GTI keeps its acclaimed and characterful 115bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine. Combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, the GTI covers 0-62 mph in 8.8 secs. (Related: VW reveals all-new Golf MkVIII)

Standard on all GTI models are 17in alloys, checked cloth upholstery and ambient lighting. Plus there’s now a multifunction camera with lane assist, curtain airbags and a smartphone integration cradle as standard equipment. The up! GTI is available in both three- and five-door body styles.

Not only is the new up! the first model in the UK to wear the new Volkswagen logo, but more standard kit is offered including a multifunction camera with lane assist, curtain airbags and a smartphone integration cradle. The range also includes an entry-level 60bhp 1.0-litre unit, priced from £12,440. (Related: VW reveals 341-mile range all-electric ID.3)

White (pictured above) and Black Edition versions are also now on sale, priced from £13,125, bringing 16in ‘La Boca’ wheels with black or white highlights, as well as a painted roof, mirror housings and dash pads finished in the corresponding colour. The White and Black Edition models are available only in five-door body style. Three-door versions are reserved for the GTI and entry-level model. (Related: VW unveils portable EV charging station)

The up! range now also includes VW’s familiar R-Line spec, with prices starting at £14,280. Bringing sportier features, the new spec adds 16in ‘Triangle’ Black alloy wheels as standard and 17-inch ‘Polygon’ alloy wheels optionally available, while black painted roof and door mirror housings complement the sportier styling.

Front fog lights sit within the bespoke R-Line bumper, while R-Line badging completes the styling package. The up! R-Line sits squatter than the standard up!, with lowered sports suspension. In addition, the high-end R-Line receives comfort features such as heated front seats alongside electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors.

Later this year, the range will see the introduction of the fully electric e-up!, which now have a range of 162 miles on a single charge.
