When it goes on-sale, the new fuel cell electric SUV is expected to be significantly cheaper than the previous ix35, which was priced around £50,000.

These new official images show the new model boasts a svelte, low drag shape which is further enhanced by recessed door handles, which are a nod towards the car’s aero efficiency credentials.

The new model is not only understood to be 20% lighter and 9% more efficient than the ix35, but is powered by a unit which delivers 20% more power, increasing output to 165bhp. According to Hyundai, the newcomer is capable of a range of 497 miles. The latest developments also mean a new tank layout allows the hydrogen to be stored in denser capacities.
