Flying Scotsman gets Dunhill style 28 | 03 | 2017

THE 2017 FLYING SCOTSMAN Rally, the UK’s premier event for vintage cars, will be sponsored by British luxury menswear brand Dunhill.

Held from March 31 — April 2, 2017, the Endurance Rally Association’s Flying Scotsman Rally will see over 100 pre-war cars flagged away from Slaley Hall, Hexham, on Friday morning.

They will journey across 800 miles of rugged landscape as they drive across the Scottish borders and north into Scotland as far as Aviemore before crossing the finish line at  Gleneagles Hotel.

“We have always encouraged our competitors to be as stylish as the cars they drive and with Dunhill London’s participation this year the drivers have no excuse not to be,” ERA rally director Fred Gallagher said.

“We are thrilled to have the support of Dunhill London, a brand whose founder Alfred Dunhill famously began his business equipping London’s first motorists with the best leather goods and clothing. dunhill London’s rich heritage in motoring makes them a natural partner for this year’s rally.”

As well as sponsoring the event, Dunhill will be working with two-time Flying Scotsman winner William Medcalf to create an exciting short film about the event with cameras following William and his co-driver Hugh Francis Anderson in the Bentley 4½ along the 800mile journey.

The 2017 rally’s entry list includes a 1907 Itala that previously conquered the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge, as well as a pair of 1948 MG TCs, the youngest cars on the entry list.

However, the field is dominated by the Bentley boys with more than 20 models taking part, ranging from a Super Sports to the historic 4½ Le Mans.

With a successful track record of over 70 major international events behind it, the ERA attracts entrants from all over the world and vehicles spanning over 85 years of motoring history.
