    TOYOTA HAS REVEALED pricing and spec levels for its 2017 Yaris, which has gone on-sale at Scottish dealerships a week after making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. (Related: Toyota Yaris takes first World Rally Championship win)

    The latest model gets a new look, a new 1.5-litre petrol engine and now starts at £12,495 for the one-litre model and £15,995 for the hybrid. Worth highlighting, the entry-level Yaris now starts £1000 above the base level of its predecessor.

    Much of that increase is down to the new model gaining a comprehensive range of the ever-increasing semi-autonomous features which are now prevalent in modern-days cars. (Related: Roadtest — Toyota C-HR 1.8 Hybrid CVT)

    The latest Yaris gets Toyota Safety Sense, which equips the car with a Pre-Collision System with autonomous emergency braking, Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beam. All models, bar the entry-level, get traffic sign recognition as well.

    There’s also rain-sensing windscreen wipers, power front windows, Bluetooth and a six-speaker audio system all as standard.

    Hybrid models additionally feature automatic air conditioning and projector headlamps.

    Externally, the Yaris has been refreshed in a bid to make the car look sportier and wider. This means a new front grille with a simpler-looking nose, plus a sharper face with new headlights. The door moulding have also been placed lower; a subtle but significant difference.

    At the rear of the Yaris, there are new horizontal tail-lights, a new bumper and a revised tailgate.

    Buyers can choose LED daytime running headlights plus LED tail-lights from the option list, while there’s also the choice of three new alloy wheel designs and two paint colour options.

    The new 1.5-litre petrol engine develops 110bhp and Toyota says the car is 0.8secs quicker to 62mph from standstill compared to the current 1.3-litre: 11s versus 11.8s.

    Of more significance in terms of real world driving, the 1.5 is 1.2s faster from 50mph to 70mph, making overtaking faster and safer.

    Mate the engine to the CVT gearbox, and Toyota says it’s also up to 12% more efficient, meaning 56.6mpg at the pumps. Ot also emits 109g/km CO2.

    The range also includes the hybridised version of the 1.5-litre petrol, plus a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol producing 68bhp.

    Across the range, there’s also a new grade structure comprising of Active, which starts at £12,495; Icon, Icon Tech, Design, Bi-tone and Excel specifications. The cheapest hybrid is the 1.5 Active costing £15,995, while the entry-level 1.5 without hybrid assistance is the next trim level up, the Icon, which will set you back £15,295.
