BMW Z4 Concept set for unveil 31 | 07 | 2017
BMW HAS TEASED what it’s all-new Z4 roadster will look like. The car — which will be labelled the Z4 Concept — will be shown for the first time at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 17. (Related: New Mini dealership for Scotland)
What we can see from the teaser image is that the open-top concept will feature a pair of rear buttresses. It’s likely though that these will disappear in the production form which will have a more conventional folding soft top.
Expected to enter Scottish BMW dealerships late next year, the third-generation Z4 roadster is being developed in a joint engineering programme between BMW and Toyota. The Japanese manufacturer will sell a coupé version which will bring back the Supra badge.
Set to go head-to-head with the likes of the new Audi TT, Mercedes SLC and Porsche 718 Boxster, the new Z4 — which will again be rear-wheel drive — is understood to use the same lightweight body construction as the i3 and i8.
Power is expected to come from a range of four and six-cylinder BMW ‘TwinPower’ turbo petrol engines, with the base model producing at least 200bhp. Range-topping turbocharged straight-six models are likely to nudge the 300bhp barrier.
