2017 Vauxhall Crossland X 18 | 01 | 2017

VAUXHALL HAS REVEALED its Crossland X baby SUV which is set to go head-to-head with the Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008. It will go on-sale in Scottish Vauxhall dealers in June.

Vauxhall, which continues to be the biggest-selling manufacturer in Scotland, is targeting the front-wheel-drive Crossland X is targeted at families. The 4WD version, not surprisingly, is aimed at those with more active lifestyles.

Boasting similar dimensions to those of the Mokka X, the Crossland X is 4212mm long, 1764mm wide and 1588mm high, compared with the Mokka X’s 4275mm, 1781mm and 1658mm measurements.

Despite being slightly smaller than the Mokka X, Vauxhall says the Crossland X has a more spacious interior and better functionality, including a rear bench that splits 60/40 and slides back 150mm. In this position, boot volume is 410-litres, but increases to 50-litres with the seat moved forwards.

Standard equipment includes Vauxhall’s Onstar onboard assistance and wi-fi hotspot system, while the infotainment set-up is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Crossland X also gets lane keeping assist, speed limit sign recognition, forward collision alert, a 180deg panoramic rear-view camera, plus a heated steering wheel and windscreen.

A contrasting roof colour, and panoramic glass roof are also available on the options list.

Vauxhall is believed to be planning to place the entry-level Crossland X below the current £17,590 starting price of the Mokka X. The company will also introduce another larger SUV, badged Grandland X, towards the end of 2017.

Sharing mechanical parts with the Peugeot 2008, the Crossland X is also expected to share the Peug’s range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. That would mean a range of power plants between 1.2 and 2.0-litres, mated to a choice of either manual or automatic gearboxes.

“Crossland X is as multi-talented as it is stylish,” Rory Harvey, Vauxhall’s chairman and managing director, said.

“It will appeal to buyers with families who demand agility and convenience in urban driving, but with enough comfort and performance to cover long distances at the drop of a hat. Our customers’ expectations are changing, so the timing is perfect for an additional model in the Vauxhall range, which caters for a new breed of buyer.”
