Video shows details of VW T-Roc 16 | 08 | 2017
VOLKSWAGEN HAS RELEASED a short teaser video (watch video here) and new sketch detailing its new T-Roc. Set to go head-to-head with the class-leading Nissan Qashqai, Seat Ateca and Audi Q2, the T-Roc will be officially unveiled on August 23. It’s expected to cost around £19,000 when it goes on-sale at Scottish dealers in the autumn. (Related: VW Arteon flagship starts at £34,305)
What’s clear from the video is the production version of theT-Roc will tone down the unconventional design and chunky dimensions as seen in the sketches.
The video gives us a brief glimpse of several T-Roc features, including the front and rear lights, wheels and wing mirrors, and highlights the fact the newcomer takes much of its inspiration from the Tiguan, and the forthcoming new Polo.
Considerably lower and shorter than the Tiguan, it’s also expected the T-Roc’s dimensions won’t alter much from those of the 2014 concept, which was 4178mm long, 1831mm wide and 1501mm high.
It’s expected the T-Roc will share engines with the both Polo and the Golf. There will also be 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesels, while buyers will have the choice from six-speed manual and optional seven-speed DSG automatic gearboxes.
Four-wheel drive will be available as either an option or standard on higher-powered models.
As VW continues its move towards electric cars, a plug-in hybrid T-Roc GTE and a fully electric e-T-Roc are planned, utilising powertrains first seen in the Golf.
The T-Roc's full public debut will take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
