New E-Class estate starts at £37,935 26 | 07 | 2016

MERCEDES’ NEW E-CLASS estate — which traditionally accounts for close to 25% of all the marque's sales in the UK — will cost from £37,935. Order books at Scottish dealerships are open now, with first deliveries scheduled for October.

Initially the car will be available as a diesel-powered four-cylinder E220d, before it’s joined by the six-cylinder E350d and petrol 3.0-litre V6 Mercedes-AMG E 43 before the end of the year. Prices for the latter two models won’t be revealed till October.

Producing 194hp and 400 Nm, the E220d is powered by Mercedes’ new four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo-charged engine. Fitted with a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox as standard, Merc says it will return 67.3 mpg and emit 109g/km CO2. It’ll also hit 62mph from standstill in 7.7secs.

The entry-level SE gets Garmin Map Pilot navigation system; Agility Control suspension; Easy-Pack automatic powered tail gate; Parking Pilot, including Parktronic and reversing camera; chrome roof rails; 64-colour selectable LED interior lighting; Keyless-Go starting function; heated front seats; DAB radio; and 17in alloys with a five-spoke design all as standard.

Splash out an extra £2495 for the AMG Line, and you get AMG exterior styling with 19in alloys in titanium grey; upper dashboard finished in Artico leather; black ash wood trim; brushed stainless steel AMG sports pedals with black rubber studs; and a three-spoke AMG steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather.

There’s also a Premium options pack, which will set you back an extra £2795. This includes Keyless-Go Comfort package; Memory package; and a panoramic glass sunroof. Premium Plus, a further £1100, adds the Burmester surround sound system with 13 speakers; and a Multibeam LED Intelligent Light System.

If you fancy the Lane Tracking Package, that can be added for £595 and it includes Passive Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist.

And yes, theres more. Opt for the £1695 advanced Driving Assistance Plus package and you get Drive Pilot, which combines Steering Pilot, Distance Pilot Distronic, and Speed Limit Pilot.

Steering Pilot detects road markings and actively assists the driver by one-sided braking, guiding the car to stay within its lane. Distance Pilot Distronic uses radars to maintain a set distance from the car in front, while Speed Limit Pilot detects a change in speed limit and automatically alters the car’s speed without intervention from the driver.

Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Evasive Steering Assist, and Pre-Safe Impulse Side are also included in the Driving Assistance Plus option pack.
