New Vauxhall Mokka gets X factor 04 | 02 | 2016

VAUXHALL, WHICH REMAINS the bestselling marque in Scotland, has revealed a facelift for its small crossover, the Mokka. Now rebadged Mokka X, the car receives a new engine choice, a bold new design, and Vauxhall’s OnStar connectivity system.

Set to be officially unveiled at next month's Geneva Motor Show, and on sale late this year, the British-designed Mokka X is very similar to the previous model. The newcomer though now does have the new Vauxhall ‘family face’. With a ‘wing-shaped’ front grille and fewer bits of extraneous plastic trim, it's certainly more chiselled than the outgoing model.

Out too have gone the previous Xenon units to be replaced by ‘Adaptive Forward Lighting’ LED headlights.

Inside the cabin, the changes are even more comprehensive and, perhaps not surprisingly, there's an air of the Astra about the Mokka X’s dash. That means fewer buttons than the previous car, swathes of piano-black trim and a large IntelliLink touchscreen which brings both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the Mokka X.

The real star though is OnStar, which Vauxhall calls a ‘personal connectivity and service assistant’. Combining plenty of functions, it delivers a built-in 4G wireless hotspot — idea for keeping the kids occupied in the back — and OnStar advisors are on hand 24/7 to download destinations to the sat-nav, bring roadside assistance to the vehicle’s location or even call the emergency services in the event of an accident.

Powerplants? There's Vauxhall's excellent 1.6-litre ‘Whisper’ diesel, while petrol lovers get a new generation 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, which is good for 150bhp and 42.8mpg when combined with four-wheel-drive and a six-speed automatic gearbox.
