2017 BRZ gets a mild redesign 13 | 12 | 2016
SUBARU HAS LIFTED the wraps from its facelifted 2017 BRZ coupe, which goes on-sale at Scottish dealerships in Spring. In addition to its new look, the car also gets new interior technology, engine upgrades, suspension tweaks and a new driving setup for track drivers.
Externally the BRZ now has a a revised front bumper, which makes the car looks slightly lower and wider, plus there’s new full-LED headlights.
At the rear of the Subaru, there’s a slight redesign to the taillights plus a new rear wing on the boot lid. The overall look is set off by new 10-spoke alloys.
Inside the 2017 cabin — which has been upgraded to include Alcantara and leather — the BRZ now gets a 4.2-inch LCD mutil-function display embedded in the instrument panel, plus a G force meter, a lap timer and a handful of other sporty benchmarking tools. And not only has the steering wheel been redesigned, it’s also shrunk in size.
But the changes aren’t all cosmetic. Under the Subaru’s sis, there’s a number of drivetrain and chassis revisions, including the 2.0-litre flat four receiving new cylinder blocks, a new camshaft and lighter rocker arms. Power though remains the same, with 197bhp.
Subaru highlights the chassis changes are more about refining driving experience and fuel economy. Redesigned dampers have been tweaked to reduce body roll and damping vibration, there’s a new ‘TRACK’ mode on the VDC selector, plus a new hill-start assist setup and new airbags.
When the car does go on-sale next year, it will be available only as a SE Lux trim, currently priced at £23,995 with a manual gearbox.
