First sight of 'Baby Cayenne' 14 | 05 | 2012

THIS IS THE first undisguised photo of the new mini-Cayenne, the Porsche Macan, which will enter Scottish showrooms in October next year, with prices expected to start at £35,000.

Based on the same platform as the Audi Q5, the Macan clearly resembles a shrunken Cayenne, though it does benefit from a far lower and more curved roofline.

It's impossible to miss the same sculpted lines as the Cayenne, but the Macan gets elongated headlamps integrated into sculpted wheelarches. At the rear, heavy disguising covers the car's detailing.

Porsche has also given the Macan LED running lights which sit beneath the headlamps; the air intakes are also the same as the Cayenne's.

The newcomer — which will be built on its own line in Leipzig in Germany — will also get a wider stance than the Q5, ensuring it has a sportier, more squat look. And while the model caught here in this spyshot is a five-door, there will also be a three-door which is set to go head-to-head with the Evoque.

Engines? Well there's expected to be a fairly comprehensive selection of petrol and diesel, plus a hybrid.

Entry-level will include two four-cylinder engines, while the barnstorming range-topper will be a twin-turbocharged V6 with around 370bhp

Petrol fans get a 220bhp 2.0-litre engine, which is expected to hit 62mph from standstill in 7.5secs,a nd accelerate on to 143mph. It's expected the entry-level diesel will be a 190bhp 2.0 turbo unit.

    Step up to the Macan S, and there's a 295bhp 3.6-litre V6 in the S, and a 250bhp 3.0-litre V6 oilburner.
In addition to expanding the Porsche range, the Macan will also help the German giant it hit EU emissions targets for niche manufacturers, which means reducing average emissions by 25%, compared to 2007, by 2015.
