138bhp VW Polo Blue GT 06 | 03 | 2012

VOLKSWAGEN HAS REVEALED a performance-orientated version of the Polo, the Polo Blue GT, at the Geneva Motor Show today.

Powered by the VW Group’s 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a cylinder deactivation system, the Polo Blue GT delivers 138bhp.

VW claims the car will hit 62mph from standstill in 7.9sec and reach a top speed of 131mph in standard six-speed manual guise. That's just1.0sec and 11mph slower than the Volkswagen Polo GTI, which runs a 178bhp version of the same engine.

The car's intelligent ACT cylinder deactivation system boosts fuel efficiency by closing down the middle two cylinders on part throttle loads. The result is 60.1mpg, but that improves further to 62.7mpg in combination with an optional seven speed dual clutch gearbox.

No date has been announced for its UK launch, but expect to see the Polo Blue GT in VW's Scottish dealerships before the end of 2012.
