Subaru launches new BRZ 07 | 03 | 2012

SUBARU'S NEW SPORTS COUPE, the BRZ, was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. Marking a step away from its traditional all-wheel drive, turbocharged heritage, the BRZ is a rear-drive 2.0-litre naturally aspirated model.

It uses the same 197bhp Subaru boxer-engine found in the sister car, Toyota's GT 86. By locating the engine lowdown, the BRZ sports a low hood and sleek roofline.

Subaru's family styling though is mirrored in the BRZ's front-end which boasts a hexagonal lower front grille, hawk eye headlights and fin-shaped fog lamps.

“Subaru is a sports brand," Subaru’s product planning manager, Toshio Masuda, said as he hinted the BRZ will ultimately appear in a range of guises.

"We first want to show you the base for BRZ and it will have a long life cycle and will consider future derivatives. There will be no turbo though. When you drive the car you will be surprised at just how good the handling and steering feel is.”

Subaru is restricting the number of BRZs due to be sold: only 500 will be available across the UK.
