Tesco Cars website stalls 25 | 04 | 2012

DESPITE ITS MUCH publicised launch, the plug has been pulled on the Tesco Cars website. Grant Thornton has been appointed as the administrator of the business behind the failed website.

The firm has been appointed as the administrator of both Carsite and Auto Online, which traded as Tesco Cars from April 2011 until its collapse earlier this month.

The sale of Tesco Cars’ assets, including the online trading platform and 240 cars, will also be handled by Grant Thornton.

According to Tesco which, of course, is the largest retailer in the UK, it pulled the plug on the used car sales business because it was unable to source a satisfactory supply of vehicles.

Interestingly, in the group’s preliminary results — a substantial 35-page document — which were published last week, Tesco made no mention of its exit from selling used cars.
