Audi reveals new RS Q3 concept 18 | 04 | 2012

AUDI IS PUSHING the boat out when it comes to maximising the appeal of its Q3 SUV: the German giant will unveil an RS concept of the Q3 at the Beijing Motor Show next week.

The RS Q3 concept — which Audi insiders say "explores the potential" of a high-performance SUV" — is powered by a 355bhp highly-tuned version of the same 2.5-litre five-cylinder found in both the Audi RS3 and TT-RS.

The extra power, it's increased by 20bhp over the unit found in the RS3, results in a time of just 5.2secs for the 0-62mph sprint. Where legal, it can carry on to a maximum of 164bhp.

The 4WD RS Q3 concept also uses a seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission to deliver the power to all four wheels.

As you might expect, the RS Q3 has been given subtle design tweaks. For starters, it's 25mm lower than the standard car, plus it benefits from sports suspension.

There's also a rather muscular RS styling kit, which includes a new 3D-effect black honeycomb grille, tinted headlights, a redesigned front bumper with sculpted air intakes, and a spoiler made from carbonfibre-reinforced plastics.

It looks slightly beefier and more aggressive thanks to its new flared side skirts and wheel arches. There's also two large tailpipes protruding from the new rear bumper.
