Vauxhall reveals urban concept 08 | 09 | 2011

THIS RATHER STRANGE looking contraption is Vauxhall's new urban concept; in simple terms, it's what the Luton-based manufacturer believes we'll all be using in town in a few years.

Vauxhall's "future vision for affordable personal urban mobility" has, according to the company, “production potential”. And though it has yet to give the creation a name, it goes on to state it could “revolutionise urban transport, especially for younger drivers and those on a very tight budget”.

Vauxhall/Opel is keeping rather tightlipped about the concept's details, but what is clear is that it features two seats in a tandem layout ; it's also believed to be about one-third of the weight of a contemporary small car.

And the concept, which Vauxhall believes is “agile and fun to drive” thanks to its light weight, is powered by an unspecified electric powertrain which gives a claimed range of 60 miles and a 75mph top speed.

Now take a deep breath here: Vauxhall says the styling of the concept has been "inspired " by its Ampera extended-range electric saloon, particularly at the front end. Hmm … right!

Like the rest of us, you'll need to wait until it's officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week for more more details.
