Suzuki aims big with small concepts 10 | 11 | 2011
SUZUKI WILL REVEAL three new concept vehicles — all city-based cars — at next month’s Tokyo Motor Show.
Under the theme of “small cars for a big future”, the concepts include the manufacturer's vision of its next-generation small global car, Regina.
There's also a two-seat micro-mobility scooter, dubbed Q-concept, plus an electric range-extender version of the Suzuki Swift, labelled Swift EV hybrid.
Tipping the scales at just 730kg, the Regina is powered by a yet unknown small-capacity petrol engine. Maximising the car’s aerodynamics to boost fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions, Suzuki believes the Regina will return 88mpg and 70g/km CO2.

The Suzuki Q-concept is a wacky electric two-seat tandem quadracycle which mirrors much of the styling of the Renault Twizy ... but strangely resembles something akin to a giant Dyson vacuum cleaner.
Pitched as a comfortable commuting tool, Suzuki believe the Q-concept will be “ideal for everyday journeys within a radius of about six miles”.
Cleverly, the Q-concept can also be adapted to double as a delivery vehicle with a single seat at the front and a cargo area at the rear. Alternatively, the rear can be used to accommodate two children.
Finally, the Suzuki Swift EV Hybrid is an EV with an engine-driven generator which the company claims can be driven for between 12 and 18 miles on battery power alone: it's then topped up by the petrol generator.
