Ford to lift wraps on 5dr Fiesta ST 08 | 11 | 2011

TWO MONTHS AFTER it unveiled its three-door Fiesta ST at Frankfurt, Ford has released these images of the five-door version of the new hothatch.

Though Ford labels the model a 'concept', the car, which will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show later this month, will definitely enter production.

Ford has still to announce though whether the five-door will come to Europe, or will be restricted to America.

Powered by Ford’s 1.6-litre Ecoboost petrol engine, which produces 178bhp, the ST uses a six-speed manual gearbox.

Not surprisingly, the outside styling of the Fiesta ST reflects the looks of its bigger brother, the Focus ST. There's side skirts, as well as a large, distinctive trapezoidal grille.

The stylishly flared arches are filled by 17in alloys, while at the rear there's a diffuser and spoiler, plus twin chrome tailpipes.

Compared to the standard car, the ST benefits from a revised ride height and suspension geometry. The result, according to Ford, is more focused driving dynamics that can “flatter less-experienced drivers while rewarding those seeking to push the limits of the Fiesta ST's sports performance."

"The Fiesta has a rich history of high-performance models, so a new ST performance model is a logical next step in our performance vehicle strategy for our global small cars," Derrick Kuzak, global product development vice president, said.
