Tesla S charging our way in 2012 09 | 03 | 2011

TESLA, ONE OF the few manufacturers which is manufacturing exciting electric vehicles, will launch its all-new Tesla S in North American next summer. European left-hand-drive versions will arrive in the UK towards the end of 2012; thankfully RHD models will follow around six months later.

When it's launched in the States, the first 1000 Tesla S models will be the North American ‘Signature Series’; this will also be the case when the car comes to Europe.

The Tesla S comes complete with a battery capable of delivering a 300-mile range and will feature "an extensive complement of options", according to sales boss George Blankenship.

The entry model in the States — the version fitted with a battery pack with a 160-mile range — will cost $49,900, rising by $10k for the 230-mile version and finally the range-topping 300-mile variant, which adds $20k to the base price.

Tesla expects to sell around 5000 units in 2012, with production ramping up to 20,000 units from 2013.
