Geneva, cricket, Spring and Ferrari 03 | 03 | 2011

THE GENEVA MOTOR SHOW is the traditional annual European get-together for everyone in the motoring industry; it's a bit like the first day of Spring, or the new football or cricket season. But this year there was a special feeling in the air; and it was one of optimism and confidence.

I'm fortunate to have attended more shows at the excellent Palexpo halls — brilliantly within walking distance of the international airport — but this year must rate as one of the best ever, simply because of the extensive range of new metal which was unveiled. And for a change, most of it was rather appealing.

The question I always get when I get back home is "well, what was the best car you saw?"

This year it's difficult to answer. The Alfa 4C is incredibly impressive; I loved the Lamborghini Aventador, and the Morgan Threewheeler is something which is just seriously different. There was the Ford B-Max, the new VW Golf Cabrio and Zagato's interpretation of the Fiat 500 TwinAir.

Not surprisingly, the halls were full of alternative fuel cars, mostly hybrids but with a fair sprinkling of electric vehicles — even Rolls-Royce got in on the act with its 102EX, its electric Phantom.

But my favourite? Well it has to be the Ferrari FF. Now I've never really been a Ferrari man, but this four-wheel-drive 2+2 is just sensational (check out the stunning official video). If the lottery comes up this week, that will be the first car my list, followed rapidly by ...... ?!?!

But enough of my admissions. We at Scotcars are delighted to deliver the most comprehensive coverage anywhere in Scotland of the Geneva Motor Show. We have coverage of the main cars and manufacturers, photographs galore, and video.
