Sportier look for new Golf 18 | 07 | 2011

VOLKSWAGEN WILL give its seventh-generation Golf a more sporty, rakish look than the current MkVI (pictured); the new model is set to enter Scottish dealerships next year.

VW insiders have admitted the new hatchback will not only have a more steeply raked windscreen, but also a lower driving position, a lower roofline and a wider footprint. Inside the cabin, the next Golf will also get an all-new instrument panel and a centre console that is angled towards the driver.

Part of the reason for the news styling cues is that VW wants to make sure there is a greater distinction between the three-door, five-door and high-roofed Golf Plus models.

While the German manufacturer intends to make the three-door Golf MkVII look even sportier than the five-door, it will also move the next Golf Plus slightly to position it as a spacious five-seat mini-MPV.
