Thieves drill into fuel tank 19 | 01 | 2011

SCOTS THIEVES have not only hit an all-time low, but have risked their lives to steal fuel from a car in Aberdeen after they drilled into fuel tank. Russell Horne (27) woke to find his Mazda 3 had been targeted in the middle of the night, hours after he'd filled the tank at a nearby petrol station.

"I parked the car at about 7pm," he explained, "Then I went out in the morning to go to the gym. When I turned on the engine, I was surprised to see the fuel tank was empty. There was also some fuel on the road. I called in a mechanic to have a look and he told me that there had been a clear hole drilled into the tank. I could hardly believe it."

The audacious theft is just the latest in a growing series across Scotland as the price of fuel continues to soar to new levels.
