Ford's new 114g/km Mondeo 11 | 02 | 2011

FORD IS STEPPING up its environmental campaign by launching a new 114g/km version of the Mondeo Econetic at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. The car will be powered by a new 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engine with 113bhp. It will also feature Ford’s new stop-start system taken from its new 158bhp 1.6 Ecoboost engine.

This will be the first ultra-frugal Econetic version of the Mondeo since the range was facelifted late last year. The previous five-door Mondeo Econetic was powered by a 2.0-litre diesel and managed combined economy of 54.3mpg; Ford has yet to reveal a figure for the new model.

And Ford will make further use of the new engine by also making it available in the S-Max and Galaxy; both models share a platform with the Mondeo, but again performance and economy figures for these models have yet to be confirmed.

Geneva will also be the location for the launch of a new version of the Ka. Called Metal Ka, it is part of Ford’s Individual programme that offers more distinct exterior and interior colour options for its models. The Metal Ka reaches Scottish showrooms in April.
