Rinky-dink Panthermobile for sale 26 | 08 | 2011

FOR ANY CHILD of the late-Sixties and Seventies, here's a chance to own a part of real life fantasy; the one and only, truly original, rinky-dink Panthermobile — as driven by the Pink Panther — is up for sale.

The Pink Panther Show was aired in the United States on NBC from 1969 until 1976, and the car was created by Jay Ohrberg, also known for having produced movie and television vehicles including the Knight Rider K.I.T.T., the Back To The Future DeLorean, the 1966 Batman Batmobile, the 1989 Batman Batmobile, the Dukes of Hazzard General Lee, the Starsky & Hutch Ford Gran Torino and even the Flintstones cars.

But without question — apart, perhaps, from the iconic 1966 Batmobile — this is definitely the best, and the one to have.

Right up until it was auctioned in June 2007 by Coys, the Pink Panther car was actually owned by Ohrberg. It was sold then for what appears a rather paltry £88,000.

Now it could be yours if you're successful in the online auction which has been set to coincide with its appearance at Chelsea Auto Legends on September 4.

The vehicle is in totally original condition but, given the fact it is 42-years-old, would benefit from some sympathetic restoration, admits the auctioneer Robson Kay. Sadly the engine isn't running, but it was believed to be working when the vehicle was sold in 2007. And frustratingly, it's not street-legal, so it doesn't come with a Swansea V5.

Auctioneers Robson Kay expect the Pink Panthermobile to sell for anything between £50k-£100k when the online bidding stops at 1pm on Friday, October 14.
