Porsche revises 911 GT3 racer 16 | 08 | 2011

PORSCHE HAS REVISED its 911 GT3 Cup racer to make it — according to the German manufacturer — more “suitable for an even wider range of endurance racing”. And if you've got £141,800 — plus 20% VAT — it's yours!

In addition to getting new 18in lightweight alloy wheels with Michelin race tyres and adjustable blade-type anti-roll bars — which are adjustable in seven positions “allowing an extremely precise set-up for each race track” — the car also benefits from the addition of a 100-litre FT3 safety fuel tank. This is filled via an opening in the front bonnet.

Powered by the same 444bhp 3.8-litre flat-six engine as the Porsche GT3 RS, the racer. The Cup racer has also been trimmed in the weight department, down 170kgs to 1200kgs when compared to the road car. It also benefits from bigger front and rear spoilers for increased down-force on track.

With over 2200 units sold, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which is based on the 911 GT3 RS road car (pictured), is the most popular customer race car in the world.

Deliveries of the updated car start from next month and “will be run in this specification for the 2012 and 2013 race seasons”.

    Cost? Yup; £142k plus VAT.
