Bogie retains BRC lead after Bulldogposted in RSCOT02 | 04 | 2011

SCOTS RALLY ACE David Bogie maintained his lead in the British Rally Championship, despite finishing second in the Bulldog International Rally in North Wales.

The 25-year-old from Dumfries, who had previously won the opening two rounds of the Scottish Rally Championship and the British Championship opener, struggled all day with his Mitsubishi Evo IX.

But despite finishing second, Bogie heads to the next round of the BRC — the Pirelli International in Carlisle at the end of the month — leading the championship by two points.

"The car wasn't as sharp today as its been throughout the rest of the season," Bogie, who eventually finished 17.7secs behind the Subaru of winner Elfyn Evans, explained after returning to rally HQ in Welshpool. Bristol's Adam Gould was third, 26.5s behind Bogie.

"We replaced the cam sensor and airflow meter at the service halt, and that improved the car a bit, but it wasn't 100% right through the day.

"Elfyn was quick today and certainly seemed to be boosted by his local fans. In the end, I'm happy to come away with second place, which means we still lead the championship."

Bogie, the double Scottish champion and again co-driven by Hawick's Kevin Rae, now turns his attention to the third round of the Scottish Championship, the Aberdeen-based Granite City Rally later this month.
