Di Resta on verge of titleposted in DTM29 | 10 | 2010

BATHGATE'S PAUL di Resta heads to Adria near Venice this weekend on the verge of clinching the DTM Championship in his Mercedes-Benz. The 24-year-old Scot leads the title race by three points with just two races remaining.

"Adria's a new circuit for the DTM Championship, so it's going to be an interesting weekend," Di Resta, who leads his Mercedes team-mate Bruno Spengler by the three points, told Scotcars.

"I've never even been to the track at Adria, so it'll be a challenge for everyone getting the Mercedes set up exactly the way we want it. Learning a new track is fun though; after about 10 laps I always feel I've cracked it and can then set about delivering race-pace laps.

"This weekend though could be crucial in the championship. It's fantastic heading into the race leading the championship by three points and, as people keep reminding me, I can clinch the title this weekend if results work in my favour.

"But I'm just not thinking about that though. It's crucial I approach this weekend exactly the same way I have approached the previous rounds; professionally and focused.

"We have the momentum, having won the last three races at Brands Hatch, Oscherslaben and Hockenheim, but that will count for nothing if we don't maintain that high level of performance this weekend.

"I think the key to this weekend will be having a good Friday. If we can get some good time on-track and dial the right figures into the car, we should be ok for qualifying on Saturday. Do that, and hopefully things will then be ok for the race on Sunday."
