Alonso eyes 'perfection'posted in F111 | 11 | 2010

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP leader Fernando Alonso is determined to outpace the two Red Bulls and win the Abu Dhabi Grand prix thus ensuring there's need for a calculator to decide the 2010 Formula One title.

With an advantage of eight points over Mark Webber, 15 ahead of Sebastian Vettel and 24 in front of Lewis Hamilton's McLaren, the Ferrari ace is determined to clinch his third world championship in style.

"The Interlagos result allows us to be in charge of our own destiny," Alonso said. "With a win or a second place, we won't need any more calculations. Our approach hasn't changed for this all-important race: we know if we get everything perfectly right, then we will have the chance to reach the target we set ourselves at the beginning of the season.

"We can do it, even if we know our principal opponents are very strong: so far, perhaps apart from one race, theirs has been the best car on every type of circuit. That still doesn't mean we expect to be beaten."

Alonso, of course, won the opening race of the season in Bahrain before struggling through the first-half of the year, eventually finding himself 47 points off the lead. But such has been his performance in the second-half of the season — winning three out of four grands prix at one stage — that by Korea he was in the lead.

"Now we are at the final round of a season that will remain wonderful whatever happens," he admitted.
