VW T-Cross gets 1.5 turbo petrol 13 | 01 | 2020

    VOLKSWAGEN HAS SLOTTED a new, more powerful engine into its T-Cross SUV. The range-topping 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine is available to order now, with prices starting at £24,910 for the entry-level SEL variant. The flagship R-Line model is priced from £26,810.     The turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI EVO engine develops 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. VW claims the powerplant will cover the 0-62mph sprint in 8.5secs and carry on to a top speed of 124mph. (Related: VW reveals all-new Golf MkVIII)

    In terms of fuel economy, the 1.5 is only marginally less efficient than the lesser-powered 1.0TSI model. While the larger unit delivers economy and emissions figures of 44.1mpg and 119g/km of CO2, the 1.0 returns 44.8mpg and 114g/km.

    Power is sent to the front wheels and the 1.5 is offered exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

    The new model also comes with a healthy pack of goodies as standard, including LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and a handful of USB port. There’s also an eight-inch infotainment system. The range-topping R-Line adds a 10.25-inch digital instrument binnacle,  an exterior styling pack, and 18in alloys.
