Audi teases Audi AI:Trail quattro 28 | 08 | 2019

AUDI WILL UNVEIL its electric off-road concept car, badged the AI:Trail quattro, at next month’s Frankfurt motor show. Described simply as “an electrically driven off-roader,” Audi has released this single teaser image of the car. (Related: Porsche reveals all-electric Taycan interior)

While the use of the quattro name confirms the machine will feature four-wheel-drive, the image simply illustrates a buggy-like four-seater sitting on large off-road tyres, and with large glass elements on the side doors. (Related: New A1 Citycarver)

The AI:Trail quattro is the fourth and final concept Audi has released —  starting at the 2017 Frankfurt show with the Aicon concept car, an autonomous machine designed for long-distance cruises between cities — each showcasing differing visions for future machines. Next up was the PB18 e-tron, the low-slung sports car which probably previews the next-gen R8, followed by the AI:ME. This autonomous-ready city car showcases a future electric hatch based on the VW Group’s MEB electric car platform.

It’s likely both the AI:Trail quattro and AI:ME will both make use of the MEB platform, which has already been used for the Volkswagen ID Buggy off-roader. It’s no coincidence both the Audi concepts appear to each have similar, compact dimensions.
