Porsche reveals facelifted Macan 26 | 07 | 2018

PORSCHE HAS GIVEN its Macan SUV a revamp for 2018. The newly-facelifted model gets new engines, tweaks to the styling, chassis tweaks, a new infotainment system and new engines. The model also ditches the 3.0-litre diesel from the range. The new Macan will be available to order from Scottish dealers later this year. (Related: Mission E to be badged Taycan)

The engine range is now solely petrol-powered, starting with the same four-cylinder 252bhp 2.0-litre turbo as before, though it has now been fitted with a particulate filter. The six-cylinder powerplants include a new 3.0-litre V6 with 351bhp in the Macan S, and a 434bh 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo. (Related: New Porsche Centre opens in Scotland)

Changes to the front of the Macan are subtle, with the air intakes positioned to the side of the large central intake now being more upright. This is designed to accentuate the car’s width. The latest Macan also comes with LED headlights as standard, while adaptive units are optional. (Related: New Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid)

There’s an obvious illuminating change at the rear where new LED tail-lights mirror the design of those on the Cayenne by stretching across the full width of the car. Buyers can now also choose from new wheel designs in either 20 or 21-inch diameters, plus there’s range of four new paint colours.

The cabin is dominated by a new 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system, labelled Porsche Communication Management (PCM), which introduces online navigation and intelligent voice control to the Macan. There’s also a sportier steering wheel design which has been lifted from the 911, plus an ioniser to improve interior air quality.

The latest Macan is also available with traffic jam assist, which enables the car to accelerate, brake and steer within lanes autonomously at speeds of up to 37mph.

Tweaks to the chassis include new springs  lighter and stiffer springs which — according to Porsche — improve agility and body control. The company says it has also placed a greater emphasis on refinement which, given the Macan has always been a highly refined car, makes you wonder to what new levels the car has reached.

Prices have yet to be confirmed, but given the addition the latest technology, it’s fair to assume there will be a slight increase over the current Macan’s £45,915 starting price.
