SCOTS MINI DEALERSHIP Grassicks has been named Mini UK’s Retailer of the Year at the prestigious awards ceremony at the Mini Plant Oxford. (Related: Eastern Western buys Grassicks BMW and Mini)

The Perth dealership, which last year joined the Edinburgh-based Eastern Western Motor Group, emerged top of Mini’s 139 UK franchisees after leading the rankings in 13 criteria, including new car sales, used car sales, profitability and customer satisfaction. In a double success for the group, Eastern Edinburgh won Mini Corporate Retailer of the Year

“We are delighted to have won Mini Retailer of the Year,” Magnus Wang, franchise director, Grassicks Mini, said. “For Eastern Western Motor Group to win this in its first year of ownership is especially pleasing.

“It is fitting recognition of all the hard work and focus by the Grassicks Mini team in 2017.”

Family-owned Grassicks Garage — which started trading in 1922, was awarded the BMW franchise in 1971, and was one of the last few independent BMW and Mini businesses in the UK — was acquired by EWMG last August.

The expansion saw the Edinburgh group increase its representation of the two brands to two centres each, and took its network portfolio to 12 franchise brands across more than 25 locations.

Boosted by the launch of the new Countryman SUV, Mini UK’s overall market share grew from 2.56% in 2016 to 2.68% in 2017 with the brand registering 68,166 vehicles in the UK. Mini was the seventh-highest selling car in Scotland last year, with 4143 unites, sandwiched between the VW Golf (4477) and Renault Clio (4086).

“The Mini retail network represents the primary interface with our customers across the UK and play an essential role in the wider success of the brand,” David George, the newly-appointed Mini UK director, said.

“It’s terrific to recognise and reward our retail partners, who in 2017 continued to drive innovation across all business areas and in doing so delivered exceptionally high levels of customer satisfaction.”
