VW T-Roc gets new 1.6TDI engine 15 | 08 | 2018
VOLKSWAGEN HAS ADDED a fifth engine to the T-Roc range. The new 113bhp, 1.6-litre turbo diesel — available to order now from Scottish dealerships priced from £21,290 — slots below the T-Roc’s only previous diesel option, the 148bhp 2.0TDI. The other engine options include three turbo petrols with capacities of 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0-litres. (Related: Roadtest — VW T-Roc)
Unlike the larger turbodiesel unit, the new 1.6TDI, which drivers 250Nm torque, sends power solely to the front wheels, rather than all four. Tested to the latest WLTP emissions standards, the 1.6 — which is already used in VW Group models such as the Golf and Touran— achieves a rating of 115g/km. The engine also powers similarly priced crossovers like the Seat Arona and Skoda Karoq
The latest diesel powerplant means the T-Roc now has a more direct alternative to rivals such as the Nissan Juke, and is vaailable in five trim levels: S, SE, Design, SEL and R-Line.
The entry-level S gets an eight-inch colour touchscreen with a digital radio, climate control, Bluetooth, LED daytime running lights and an autonomous emergency braking system all as standard. Sporty features, such as 19in alloys, comes with the range-topping R-Line.
Starting at £21,290 for the T-Roc 1.6TDI in S trim, the engine spec rises to £27,010 for the top level R-Line. Worth highlighting that the cheapest 1.6TDI is £2,335 more expensive than the entry level petrol 1.0-litre TSI, which delivers the same 113bhp, but with 50Nm less torque.
