Bogie wins Scottish Rally 28 | 06 | 2014

FIVE-TIMES SCOTTISH RALLY CHAMP David Bogie kickstarted his 2014 title bid by powering his brand new four-wheel drive, state-of-the-art Ford Fiesta R5 (pictured) to victory in the Scottish Rally.

The 26-year-old from Dumfries dominated the event, being quickest through five of the seven stages, as the 100-plus crews slithered through the dusty Dumfries & Galloway forest stages.

Bogie, debuting his R5 in the Scottish championship having ditched his ex-Colin McRae Ford Focus World Rally Car, clocked 41mins 33,8secs to finish just 3.5s ahead of current championship leader Euan Thorburn's Focus WRC.

"This win was crucial if I was to retain any chance of winning the championship again this year," Bogie, co-driven by Hawick's Kevin Rae and who has closed the gap to Thorburn to just six points, said today.

"And I'm amazed just how good it felt to be driving the new car. Ok, we probably could have pushed a bit harder in places, but considering this was our first time out in the Scottish, to win, and win my home event, is terrific."

Duns-based Thorburn, already a winner of the Snowman and Granite City rallies this season, finished comfortably ahead of third-placed Jock Armstrong. The Castle Douglas driver was more than two minutes adrift in his Subaru Impreza.
