VW reveals new Touareg details 15 | 08 | 2014

VOLKSWAGEN HAS CONFIRMED the new Touareg will cost from £43,000 when it goes on sale across Scotland on August 27, with first deliveries expected in November.

The facelifted Touareg boasts subtle styling tweaks including revised front and rear bumpers, plus redesigned diffuser, an updated grille and bi-xenon headlights.

VW's flagship SUV also benefits from a wider range of exterior paint schemes and choice of two new alloy designs.

Interior tweaks are less significant, though the Touareg now gets lumbar support as standard for the front seats, plus there are two new optional wood trims. VW has also added an automatic post-collision braking system across the entire Touareg range.

The new Touareg, which tops out at £47,500, is available with the choice of two 3.0TDI turbodiesel engines. Both have been carried over from the current range, deliver 201bhp and 258bhp, and are mated to eight-speed automatic transmission.

As a result of a Selective Catalytic Reduction system, low-rolling resistance tyres and a coasting function for the gearbox, both engines are EU6 emission compliant.

While the 201bhp diesel emits 173g/km CO2 — which is 11g/km less than before — and can achieve 42.8mpg, the 258bhp (which is an increase of 17bhp over the previous variant) also breaks the 40mph barrier and has only a fractional increase in CO2 emissions.

Three trim levels are available. The range starts with the SE, which features 19in ‘Salvador’ alloys; RNS 850 satellite navigation with eight-inch touchscreen, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth; 2Zone climate control; ‘Cricket’ leather upholstery’; bi-xenon headlights; front fog lights; parking sensors and chrome roof rails.

The Escape model features an advanced 4XMOTION off-road four-wheel drive system, with 50:50 torque split and centre and rear axle mechanical differential locks; higher off-road suspension; 18in ‘Karakum’ alloy wheels; 100-litre fuel tank (85 litres is standard on SE); underbody protection; black roof rails and a headlight cleaning system.

The range-topping Touareg R-Line features an R-Line body kit with bespoke bumpers front and rear, sill extensions and wheel arch extensions; 20in ‘Tarragona’ alloy wheels; lowered sports suspension; LED daytime running lights and a panoramic glass sunroof.

Inside is a black roof lining; bespoke R-Line seats and aluminium-look pedals, while enhanced equipment includes a heated steering wheel; electrically operated tailgate and keyless entry and start.

The range starts with the 201bhp 3.0TDI SE costing £43,000 and rises to the range-topping 258bhp 3.0TDI R-Line at £47,500.
