New Land Rover Discovery teased 03 | 04 | 2014

LAND ROVER HAS released a new teaser image giving a glimpse of what the new Discovery family will look like. And on first appearance, it looks good.

Immediately you can see that Land Rover has ditched the design language established with the Discovery 3 and 4. What replaces it something much more sophisticated, and continues the sleek lines first seen in the Evoque and carried through to the latest Ranger Rover and Range Rover Sport.

The images preview the upcoming Discovery Vision Concept, which will be revealed at the New York motor show on April 16.

According to the company, the new car is a “bold new concept that will showcase Land Rover’s design vision for a new family of Discovery vehicles”.

The new Discovery line-up, which Land Rover describes as “premium leisure SUVs”, will — at least according to the company — be “built on Land Rover’s key principles of emotive design, unrivalled capability and ultimate versatility… taken to new levels using customer-focused advanced technologies”.

The first new model in the Discovery family to reveal the new look will be the next generation Freelander, which is expected to appear in showroom guise before the end of the year: we'll probably see it at the Paris Motor Show in October, and it'll be in Scottish showrooms in 2015.

“Discovery has been pivotal in helping to build the foundations of the Land Rover brand," Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s design boss and chief creative officer, said.

"It is admired all over the world and loved by its strong customer base. We have created the Vision Concept to share the essence of Land Rover’s new age of Discovery and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow.”
