The 24-year-old Oban racer set the third-fastest time in Saturday’s qualifying and started on the front row of the grid in the race, held in atrocious wet conditions.

Confident he could deliver a podium finish, McPhee rode a masterful race to step on to the podium in third place.

“It’s a really nice way to finish the year,” the Scot said. “Hard work pays definitely off. I’d like to say a big thanks to CIP Moto and everyone around me for the support this year. I am so happy to end the year on a high note for CIP and KTM.”

McPhee will switch to Petronas and Sepang International Circuit for the 2019 Moto3 season.
