Shedden starts fourth at the Rock posted in BTCC06 | 09 | 2014

FIFER GORDON SHEDDEN will start the first of tomorrow's British Touring Car Championship triple-headers at Rockingham from fourth on the grid.

The 35-year-old from Dalgety Bay powered his Honda Civic Tourer to a fastest time of 1min 23.124secs on the 1.94-mile circuit, 0.653s off the pole time of Sam Tordoff's MG.

Frustratingly, 2012 BTCC champ Shedden, second in the title race, lines up two places behind the BMW of Colin Turkington who takes a 23-point lead into the opening race.

"Yeh, naturally I'd have liked to have started in front of Colin, but it is what it is, and I'm going to have to deliver something special tomorrow," Shedden admitted.

"This track doesn't suit the Honda all that well, so to be where we are is actually pretty good. It's going to be a tough job to cut the points gap to Colin, but I'll do everything I can to get that little bit closer."

Turkington's final flying lap edged the MG of double BTCC champ Jason Plato down into third by just 0.012s. Shedden's team-mate Matt Neal, a winner last time out at Knockhill, lines up ninth.
