Wylie gets Aston Martin test datesposted in GT13 | 01 | 2014

SCOTLAND'S LATEST YOUNG sportcar ace, Ross Wylie (pictured), will test his new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in Portugal on February 20/21.

The 22-year-old from Thornhill, near Dumfries, will join team principal Andrew Howard and his Beechdean Motorsport at the Portimao circuit in the Algarve.

Wylie will be partnered by team-mate Jake Gittings as they set-up their new Aston Martin which they will race in this season's British GT Championship.

“Andrew told Jake and myself about the test at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, and I’m so excited," Wylie said. "I’m already counting the days.

“I know 2014 is going to be a very steep learning curve for me, so clocking up pre-season mileage before the opening race on Easter Monday in April will be vital.”

Howard also revealed that it is “possible” Wylie could race a GT3 category Aston Martin in Blancpain Endurance Series races at Silverstone in May, and in the Spa 24 Hours in July.

“It’s not definite," Wylie continued, "but just to have that opportunity in the background at this stage is fantastic news.”

Wylie took the opportunity to turn back the clock and compete in the Autosport International Karting Challenge benefitting the Alzheimer’s Society during the show.

It was a successful return to his motorsport roots with Wylie, a multiple Scottish kart champion, spearheading a four-driver team to win the event celebrating the life and achievements of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon who died in a racing incident in October 2011.

“It was a bit of fun and good to claim the win," Wylie admitted. "Let’s hope it was the first of many this year.”
