MacCrone targets British crownposted in RSCOT12 | 03 | 2013

SCOTLAND'S RISING RALLY star, Isle of Mull ace John MacCrone, has confirmed he will bid for the British Rally Championship this year as the leader of a newly-formed team.

The 23-year-old will start the seven-round championship as one of the favourites to lift the coveted title previously won by fellow Scots Colin and Alister McRae, and David Bogie.

MacCrone, who last year contested the World Rally Championship Academy, bagging a couple of podium finishes, will be co-driven by veteran Phil Pugh. The Welshman guided Elfyn Evans to the WRC Academy title last year.

“I’m really privileged to have been given this opportunity," MacCrone, who will pilot a Citroen DS3 R3 rally car as part of the Culina Palletforce Racing team, said today.

"The title of British Rally Champion is one that every young driver wants on their CV, so I’m really focused on doing the best I can this season.

"I’m working hard to prepare for the first event — concentrating on everything from my fitness to pacenote training with Phil — so we can hit the ground running.”

MacCrone, who will have Carlisle's Peter Taylor as team-mate in the second Citroen, will undergo a series of tests ahead of the opening round, Rally North Wales on April 6/7.
