Dalziel wins at Indyposted in MSPOR27 | 07 | 2013

SCOTS SPORTS CAR ACE Ryan Dalziel powered his BMW-powered Starworks Riley to victory in the latest round of the Grand-Am Championship.

The 30-year-old from Wishaw, partnered by Alex Popow extended their championship lead with the win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

It's the first time Dalziel, who won at the Le Mans 24-Hours last year and was crowned FIA LMP2 World Champ, has won at America's iconic 'Brickyard' track.

“I wasn’t sure if I should have kissed the bricks or kissed the guys on the crew first,” Dalziel, who crossed the line 3.438secs ahead of the second-placed Chip Ganassi Racing Riley-BMW of Scott Pruett, said today.

"It's only a week since we got our new engine, and it made all the difference in this race: it was the missing part we'd been searching for all season."

Dalziel and Popow grabbed the three-hour race by the scruff of the neck with a dominant second-half performance.

With less than an hour remaining, passed both the pole-sitting No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP of Max Angelelli and AJ Allmendinger's No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Riley-Ford for the lead. And the Scot brought the car home to victory.

With four race remaining in the season, Dalziel leads the championship by 10 points. Next round is on August 8-10 at Road America.
