McNish tests new racer at Sebringposted in LMANS31 | 01 | 2011

SCOT ALLAN McNish has started the build-up to winning his third Le Mans 24-Hours by completing an intensive test in his new Audi R18 LMP1 car (pictured) at Sebring in the States.

The 41-year-old from Dumfries was joined by all eight of his Audi team-mates as they drove both the R18 and the outgoing R15 in the test.

"We're very pleased with the performance of the Audi R18 at our first outing at Sebring," team boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich said today. "We opted for this racetrack because it makes high demands on the mechanical systems of our vehicles.

"The temperatures are better than in Europe right now, plus the dry weather provides us with assurance that we're able to conduct the endurance runs as planned. On a wet track the loads would be lower and the test results therefore less conclusive."

The R18 will not make its competition debut until the Spa round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and Le Mans series in May. Audi intend to race the R15 for the last time at the 12-Hours of Sebring in March.
